La presente investigación se realizó en la cuenca del río Platanitos, subcuenca del río Michatoya, Guatemala, con el objetivo de estudiar las características físicas y químicas de sus suelos, elaborar su clasificación agrológica y formular recomendaciones para su uso, manejo y conservación. Se aplicó una metodología que incluyó la delimitación de la cuenca con material cartográfico del Instituto Geográfico Nacional, trabajo de campo para evaluar topografía, profundidad y erosión, análisis físico-mecánicos y químicos en laboratorio, y elaboración de mapas de clasificación agrológica, uso actual, división hidrográfica y curvas de nivel. Los resultados mostraron que el altiplano, por su alta densidad poblacional, distribución inadecuada de la tierra y falta de educación, presenta un uso inadecuado de los recursos suelo, agua y bosque, generando procesos erosivos que afectan áreas agrícolas y poblaciones aguas abajo. El estudio constituye una base preliminar para la implementación de prácticas de conservación de suelos que permitan su aprovechamiento sostenible y un beneficio económico constante para la región. |
