La presente investigación se realizó en Guatemala, orientada al cultivo de maíz como grano básico de alta importancia alimentaria. Se empleó una metodología analítica basada en la recopilación y evaluación de información estadística nacional, así como revisión bibliográfica sobre mejoramiento genético y prácticas agronómicas. Se analizaron variables productivas, rendimiento por unidad de superficie y aporte nutricional del grano, considerando el uso de genes mutantes del endospermo y la fertilización nitrogenada. Los resultados evidenciaron incrementos en el rendimiento nacional entre períodos evaluados, así como mejoras en el contenido proteico del grano asociadas a la aplicación de nitrógeno y a modificaciones genéticas específicas. |
