La presente investigación se desarrolló en el departamento de Jutiapa, Guatemala, con el propósito de determinar la población óptima de plantas de maíz por unidad de superficie, que permitiera alcanzar el máximo rendimiento del cultivo bajo las condiciones ecológicas y edáficas de la región. El estudio se fundamentó en la observación de los factores agronómicos que inciden en la producción, tales como la preparación del suelo, el uso de semilla mejorada, la fertilización adecuada, y el control eficiente de plagas, enfermedades y malezas. Se identificó que los agricultores de la zona realizan la siembra manualmente sin conocer la densidad de siembra ideal, lo que limita los rendimientos obtenidos. Asimismo, se determinó que la calidad de la semilla, los daños por insectos, las enfermedades y las condiciones ambientales influyen directamente en la población efectiva de plantas. Los resultados evidenciaron la necesidad de establecer una densidad de siembra óptima que favorezca el aprovechamiento del suelo y la rentabilidad de los productores. |
