La presente investigación se realizó en el departamento de Escuintla, Guatemala, con el propósito de analizar los factores que inciden en la productividad del cultivo de maíz, cereal de mayor importancia en el país. Se identificó que, aunque el uso de materiales mejorados y tecnología agrícola se ha extendido gracias al Instituto de Ciencia y Tecnología Agrícolas, los rendimientos siguen siendo bajos debido al mantenimiento de prácticas tradicionales. Los principales factores limitantes encontrados fueron la inadecuada densidad y distribución de plantas, así como el desconocimiento de los niveles óptimos de fertilización necesarios para incrementar la producción. |
