| Summary, etc | La presente investigación se realizo en el corredor seco de Guatemala, tiene como propósito establecer a través de la investigación cual es el proceso y cómo funciona el sistema de la parcela de milpa y como aprovechar cada componente. Siembran una parcela con el sistema Milpa de alrededor de 0.3174 ha. en la que cultiva maíz, frijol y una especie cucurbitácea. Los principales materiales genéticos del cultivo de maíz, en base a su rendimiento son los materiales híbridos (6.445 ton./ha.) y la variedad criolla (5.529 ton./ha.), se siembra en los meses de mayo a junio y la cosecha se realiza de diciembre a enero, más del 90% fertiliza su parcela y un poco más del 40% aplica productos químicos para controlar plagas. En cuanto al cultivo de frijol, en base a su rendimiento destacan; los materiales genéticos Bárcenas (2.39 ton./ha.), Villano (2.34 ton./ha.) y Lerdo (2.20 ton./ha.), es común que el cultivo de fríjol se siembre entre mayo y junio (casi el 85%) y que se coseche de septiembre a octubre (66.66%), de las personas que cultivan frijol 4 de cada 10 fertilizan y solo 1 de cada 10 aplica productos químicos para controlar plagas en este cultivo. Las prácticas agrícolas impulsadas por el PESA que más se aplican son, la no quema, la selección masal de semilla, la disminución gradual de fertilizantes químicos, barreras de rastrojo y las aboneras aéreas, el conocimiento acerca del sistema milpa que el PESA a través de distintas metodologías, prácticas y demás métodos ha desarrollado, ha incrementado en 62% según la percepción de los agricultores. |
