Guatemala es un país que desde hace años, viene haciendo estudios y mejoramiento de variedades por medio de Iowa Tropical Research Center y la Compañía Agrícola de Guatemala, pero aún no se cuenta con maíces de altos rendimientos como los presentados por las variedades de híbridos obtenidos en otro países y principalmente en los Estados Unidos, pues actualmente no existen centros nacionales ni particulares que se hayan dado a la tarea de crear mejores variedades, mejores rendimientos, mejores prácticas de cultivo y al mismo tiempo diseminarlas, lo que vendría a apoyar al productor , pues mejoraría el rendimiento unitario, mejorando el cultivo. |
