La presente investigación se centró en los sistemas de asociación de cultivos practicados por pequeños agricultores latinoamericanos, especialmente en el Valle de Quetzaltenango, Guatemala, donde predominan las combinaciones de maíz, frijol y papa. Estos sistemas, basados en experiencias heredadas, permiten obtener productos básicos para la dieta familiar, aunque carecen de un manejo tecnológico adecuado. El estudio destacó que las prácticas culturales se orientan principalmente al maíz, sin considerar la competencia con otros cultivos asociados. Ante esta limitación, se planteó evaluar el efecto de la densidad de papa y la fertilización nitrogenada en el rendimiento del maíz, con el fin de proponer un manejo más rentable. |
