Summary, etc La presente investigación se realizó en la Municipalidad de Santiago Sacatepéquez, el propósito fue establecer la caracterización de residuos y desechos sólidos comunes en el municipio, tomando en cuenta el monitoreo realizado durante ocho días consecutivos pudo establecerse que el Per cápita diaria de basura que genera cada habitante en ese Municipio es de 24.84 toneladas diarias en todo el municipio, lo que establece la factibilidad de implementar una planta para residuos y desechos dentro del municipio, se elaboró además la ubicación y georreferenciación de los basureros clandestinos a cielo abierto en el municipio de Santiago Sacatepéquez, encontrándose 14 basureros de forma ilegal por lo que se propuso a la gerencia municipal un plan de manejo y de esta forma contrarrestar el daño causado reforestando áreas aledañas sumando una totalidad de 1800 árboles en San José Pacul y La Joya de este municipio, además se capacito a los habitantes de estas comunidades en la producción de forma artesanal de hongo ostra como un suplemento alimenticio que ayudará a aquellos habitantes que atraviesan desnutrición.
