La presente investigación se llevó a cabo en Guatemala con el propósito de evaluar la disponibilidad de potasio en seis tipos de suelos, considerando tanto su nivel natural como el efecto antagónico con el magnesio. La metodología consistió en el análisis de 38,874 muestras de suelo recolectadas en distintas regiones del país durante cuatro años, mediante procedimientos de laboratorio y correlación estadística para estimar la disponibilidad del nutriente. Los resultados mostraron que el 42.2% de las muestras presentó deficiencia de potasio, con variaciones regionales que oscilaron entre 16.6% en Sacatepéquez y 88.8% en Izabal. Se determinó que los suelos de origen volcánico mostraron menor deficiencia, mientras que los desarrollados sobre rocas sedimentarias o metamórficas fueron más pobres en este elemento. El estudio resaltó la importancia de estructurar programas de fertilización basados en las necesidades del cultivo y la fertilidad real del suelo, destacando la relevancia del equilibrio potasio-magnesio en la nutrición vegetal. |
