La presente investigación se realizó en la Empresa Heifer International Guatemala, con sede en Alta Verapáz. La investigación se oriento a establecer la intensidad de uso de la tierra es principalmente de subuso, esto quiere decir que la tierra tiene alto potencial de producción de alimentos y algunas son adecuadas para el plan de incentivos forestales. De no poseer los medios necesarios para subsistir uno de los principales problemas de los pobladores son las inundaciones, para entender mejor la situación se creó un mapa de amenaza a inundaciones que muestra las áreas y comunidades inundables, además se determinaron los tiempos de retorno de eventos extremos, esto demostró, según la distribución Pearson III, Normal y Gumbel el tiempo de retorno de las tormentas evaluadas es de 10 a 50 años. Según la distribución Gumbel, Pearson III y Normal el tiempo de retorno es de 10, 30 y 50 años respectivamente. Para mejorar la situación se realizaron algunas actividades, una de ellas es la capacitación en sistemas de información geográfica a instituciones involucradas en Chisec (municipalidad, Heifer International y Pastoral Social), se dieron charlas ambientales y se trabajaron bio-bardas con los jóvenes de Chisec. Además, se implementaron estructuras para la reducción de deslizamientos en el municipio de Tucurú. |
